Yesterday Apple released the new version of Airpods – Airpods. Yes, they still call them exactly the same, and it will be very hard to differentiate between them in a real life. Just like the name says – we didn’t get a revolution, it’s more like an “S” upgrade to the existing generation. So let’s start.
First, no new colors, or material, or shapes – they look exactly the same. There are 3 options you can pick: Updated Airpods with Wireless Charging Case for 199$, Updated AirPods for 159$ or just a Wireless Charging Case for both new and previous generation AirPods for 79$ in USA. And yes, you’ve guessed it right – the new smaller visual change is LED indicator on the from side of the Airpods case with wireless charging option.
As for the features we get Always On Siri – she listens to you all the time and can be activated using well known phrase “Hey Siri” thanks to a new H1 chip built in. The new chip has that name so people won’t associate headphones with watches, as we’ve seen that chip in the Apple Watch. so W stands for watch and H for headphones. H1 also got some significant improvements over W1 chip: up to 2x faster when switching between active devices and a 1.5x faster connection time for phone calls, the first one is my biggest problem with the current generation of the Airpods.
If you decide to upgrade from a current generation of AirPods, it wight be only if your battery performs bad or you want quicker switching between devices. Let me know what are your thoughts about the new Airpods?
